Distance Learning

During the orientation, we try to talk about the difference between a traditional adult education class and a distance learning class.

Certainly Distance Learning has some advantages.

You can use the program when it's most convenient for you. There isn't a set schedule that you have to follow as in a traditional class.

You can focus on only what you need as opposed to following a set curriculum. Skills Tutor is a very structured program, but you can pick and choose the activities based on your individual needs.

You set the pace of instruction. You can speed up when the material is easy and slow down when the material is more challenging.

There are also some disadvantages.

Since there is no set schedule to do the work, many of us find other things to do rather than sitting down at the computer to work.

Even though Skills Tutor can direct you if you are correct or incorrect, it can't direct you to the most important lessons and can't interpret why you made the mistake in the first place. Therefore, you are left alone to analyze your mistakes and figure out strategies to help you do better in the future.
